Aim
We are doing this action because people are not given any chance to learn if they had internet restriction, it isn't fair that only business high powered successful people and military generals can get computers. We have to stop it and unite all foreign organizations into one and help the people in Myanmar abolish internet restriction. We can also make pursued Myanmar to end its internet restriction.
Message
People should be informed because Myanmar internet restriction has a wide influence on other communist countries in Asia. If one country suffers the same protesting and spread information about their leader using ICT, they will have the same effect of what it did to Myanmar. Let the people stand up for their own rights. We can also call China for help because China and Myanmar are trading partners so to persuade Myanmar Government to end their crackdown. Cellphones and Internet plays a crucial role of telling the world about Myanmar's pro-democracy protest.
Short term goal
Our short term goal is to educate people on how to make donations and to help influence the peacekeeping in Myanmar. Also to help sponsor the U.S.C.B start campaigns and tell people what they can do and how they can help and support the U.S.C.B.
Long-Term Goal
The long term goal will eventually influence our short term goal by educating people and tell them what is happening. We will ask people to start helping out the monks and everyone who is being affected in Myanmar. We want to contribute by doing some community service to help raise funds for organizations that help. We could also create petitions to help stop the internet restriction. We can also write letters or e-mails to the government and ask them to help them stop the military threats.
What are the organizations?
Ø The United Nations Development Program is one of the most well known activist groups working on resolving conflict in Myanmar today. Through its activities and programs, it focuses on reducing poverty, crisis prevention, healthcare and Information and Communications Technology.
Ø Another organization is the U.S. Campaign for Burma. This United States based organization works to alert people in the U.S. and in other parts of the world about how they can help Myanmar by posting news on current events on their website.
What exactly are they doing to try and combat or change our issue?
Ø Today, the United Nations Development Program is working to make the Internet less restricted and more accessible in the form of campaigns. They hope that by spreading the news, many people living in other parts of the world would step up and begin online protests to fight against efforts made by the Burmese government to restrict Internet.
Ø The U.S. Campaign for Burma’s main goal is alert more people about the current problems in Myanmar, and what they should do to help.
What are some of the things we like about what these organizations are doing?
Ø The UNDP is attempting to close the Digital Divide by improving household conditions in Myanmar as well as encouraging the Burmese Government to return Internet access to its country.
The U.S Campaign for Burma is dedicated to inspire other activist groups in Asia to help fight to end the military dictatorship in Myanmar. Though conferences, public education, and local campaigns, they hope to promote democracy in Burma and raise awareness to the world of the inhumane acts the military is committing in Myanmar.
